Enjoying time with family and friends is self-care.
I don't know about you but I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Healthy, fruitful relationships add to your life and in return, you add to the lives of your loved ones as well. I've spoken to some people who believe that self-care means you are spending quality time with yourself only. I believe self-care begins with loving yourself first and having a healthy relationship with you. However, connecting with others that make you laugh, calm your fears, allow you to cry, appreciate your uniqueness and share your interests (or not) is also a huge part of self-care. You are sharing your most prized possession, YOU, with the right people who makes you happy. Besides, we need each other!
Here are some simple ideas of how to spend quality time with those you love.
I love meeting up with my friends for lunch or even for a drink or two. That human connection is so important. It's important for both of you to see each other's smiles, feel the hugs and just enjoy each other's company.
If you insist on using your phone to communicate with your friends or family members, call them sometimes. I do understand that texting is fast and most times convenient. But a good conversation with a friend can make a huge difference in your day when you can hear each other's voices, share a few laughs or event release any concerns you've been holding onto all day.
Another great way to connect with friends or family is to plan an activity together. Create new memories by planning something fun or relaxing. Plan a trip to the beach, meet up for a fun workout, go bowling or enjoy a trip to some boutiques together. Take pictures to memorialize the event or just enjoy being in the moment by putting your phone away. It's the memory, the experience and the moment that counts.
Whatever you choose to do and however you choose to do it, just do it. Have fun making plans and have fun in the moment. Connecting with your loved ones is adding to your life and it makes you happy.
